Haven't updated in a while. Ah well, that's how it goes. Everything in October has been awesome so far, despite my lack of job. The weekend of NYCC + Gorillaz + X Japan will be difficult to beat in terms of pure kickassery. Well, at least until Glastonbury if I can afford to go.

Now I've a trip to Washington DC to look forward to, which should be a ton of fun. Going to enjoy hanging out with some friends down there, going to the Stewart/Colbert rally and then getting back to New York at noon on Halloween for more partying. This will be followed by a large bout of unconsciousness on Monday.

Anyway, two music memes below. )

Just saw The National two nights ago and I have to say it's one of the best shows I've seen this year. The way they just build up tension in a set that's finally let loose in some of their more upbeat numbers is incredible. Surprised to see that the singer wore a three-piece suit throughout the entire concert. They had two opening acts. The first one sucked but the second one wasn't bad. The singer had a really great voice with one of the strongest falsettos I've ever heard.

As for The National, they took the stage at 10:30 and played for an hour thirty. They played pretty much all of their new album, High Violet, which made me very happy. The best part though was the one-two punch of "Mr. November" and "Terrible Love."

Here are some pro shot videos from the show: )

So I'd like to thank ESPN for wasting a half hour of my evening on their Lebron James special called "The Decision." He went to the Miami Heat. Big shocker. So now basketball for the next 5 years will pretty much be the Heat vs. Lakers and 27 other mediocre teams. Ah well.

Today was fun. Woke up early for guitar lessons, which went well. I went with my family to Red Lobster, which was delicious, and my brother picked up Crackdown 2 and Red Dead Redemption. Awesome.

Anyway, time to continue this meme.

Day 04 - Your Favorite Book

I grew up with these books and have loved them since the first novel came out. It's such a great story with characters that got older at about the same pace as me. The long length never really bothered me and the fact that it's satisfying conclusion came out on my birthday felt very appropriate. Also, I don't care what anyone says, I like the epilogue. I'm glad JK Rowling gave Harry, Ron, and Hermione happy endings after everything they went through. Amazing novels from the first to the last.

She & Him rocked tonight, making the 100 degree weather almost bearable. Zooey Deschanel is really adorable but also an extremely talented musician. The combo of her and M. Ward on guitar made it an awesome, yet laid-back performance. When she belted out "I Put A Spell On You" as the last song of the night, the entire audience went nuts. I knew she could sing, but she yelled out some of those notes for at least 10 seconds. Epic. Anyway, I have two of these 30-day memes to do )

Spent Independence Day going food shopping, listening to the two latest Gaslight Anthem albums back-to-back, and watching District 9. Strange yet awesome selections. Now for the meme:

Day 01 - Your Favorite Song )

I find it impossible to limit the selection to one song. Instead, here are my top two.

I absolutely love this song. It's completely badass and represents the best era of U2's history: the early 90s ZooTV era. Everything about the song is perfect to me. Edge's guitar is nasty as hell, working with a very simple riff and making it sound grungy right before the grunge movement really hit. Plus, it has his best guitar solo ever. Bono's vocal delivery between whispers and falsetto only adds to the coolness. It always gets me pumped up. I really hope I get to see it played live someday.

This song is probably the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. The acoustic guitar working with the string section creates a perfect backing for Thom Yorke's vocals. I like how it slowly builds emotionally and musically until it reaches a peak after the final chorus when Yorke switches to falsetto. The swirling strings at the end create a sense of claustrophobia that breaks when the strings fall away for just a moment, letting the falsetto be heard clearly before it's covered up again by the strings. This song made Radiohead my second favorite band.

It's been a fun last few days. Karaoke hangout on Thursday went awesomely and included a return trip to the Stardust diner. I haven't been there in a long time. It's as expensive as I remember but still awesome food. Then yesterday, I had my first guitar lesson since January. Didn't do as badly as I thought I would, but I'm still pretty rusty. Then I hung out at Dana's for some guitar-noodling/Samurai Champloo/burgers.

Today was Maz's party and dinner at Isle of Capri. I was only able to stay for a few hours but I got to see a few old friends that I haven't run into lately. Also got to watch the total disaster of a movie, 2012. Seriously, when your a disaster movie and only about a fourth of the film has disaster's occurring, something's wrong there. As for Isle of Capri, it was one of the best Italian places I've ever been to. They had really incredible veal francese as well as awesome drinks. Definitely need to go back there when I have money. Now for a meme )

My God, it was hot today. I knew it was supposed to be warm but 92 degrees?!

Oh, yeah, I'm also going to start using this again at least until I forget or get bored. lol

So I've learned today that I hear some of the dumbest lyrics ever written while I'm at work. For today, it was a tie between "They call me Mr. Orgasm//If you're with me, then you'll have one." and "I ain't doing nothing//I'm sipping on something." For the first set, it's possibly the worst attempt at ego-boosting pickup lines I've ever heard. The second lyrics just make no sense. You're obviously sipping on something, therefore how are you doing nothing? Anyway, I digress.

Besides that, I picked up The National's new album, High Violet. I'm about halfway through listening and it's truly amazing. It may be the best album I've heard so far this year. I highly recommend it.

Tomorrow I'm heading over to Tom's graduation party so that should be fun. I look forward to Rock Band hi-jinks. Now I'm off to finish organizing my photos and play FFXIII.

P.S. If anyone can remind me how to page cut an entry, I'd appreciate it.

P.P.S. Looking at some of my older LJ entries makes me want to go back in time and punch myself in the face. That is all.

It has been 41 weeks since I last posted on LJ but today's a special occasion.

Today, Senator Barack Obama was elected to be the next President of United States. I personally believe that there will really be some change now for the better and am looking forward to when Obama takes office in January.

This year's election was the highest turnout ever, which was something I was really happy to hear. It showed me that Americans still cared about who was running our country. I am very proud to have been part of this monumental occasion and I wish Obama all the best for the next four years.

Hello everyone. It looks like I didn't update last week. I was busy with school stuff. But I'm back and ready to spread the news. So let's get started.

- Super Smash Bros Brawl has been delayed to March 9th. But they did reveal that Sheik is another playable character. It also looks like someone at Nintendo Japan screwed up and revealed that Ness, Jigglypuff, and Lucario will all be playable characters in SSBB.

- The character of General "Thunderbolt" Ross from The Incredible Hulk will have a cameo appearance in the Iron Man movie. So will Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, which was a really awesome decision.

- An Oasis pack will be released for Rock Band on January 22, also known as today. I wish they would have a U2 pack or a Beatles pack. I'm not a fan of Oasis. Their songs just sound too much like other songs for me.

- Family Guy: Blue Harvest is a hilarious movie that every Family Guy or Star Wars fan should own. Get it whenever you can.

- The Sarah Connor Chronicles is an awesome show. The three episodes I've seen have captured the Terminator franchise better than the third movie did. I recommend you check it out.

- There is a rumor going around that the original Super Smash Bros will be released on the Wii's Virtual Console alongside the release of SSBB.

- Cloverfield was released last weekend. It is an amazing movie with an original take on the monster flick. Everyone should see it as soon as they can.

- Halo 3 has announced 3 new multiplayer maps that will available as downloadable content this spring. The maps are codenamed as "Cottonball," "Purple Reign," and "OK Corral." Halo 3 never fails to impress. I can't wait to see what these new maps look like.

- Grand Theft Auto IV will be released on April 29th. Since I reserved it before it had a release date, I think I'll be getting on the day of release. XD

- U2:3D has been released to theaters in select cities. If any of you reading this are even remote U2 fans, I strongly recommend you go see this movie. It's the closest you can get to being at a U2 concert without actually being there.

-> This week in music:

- The only real noteworthy album being released is "The Bedlam in Goliath" by The Mars Volta on January 29th. (The Mars Volta isn't really my type of music but they do sound like an innovative band.)

-> This week in movies (all releases this Friday, Jan. 25):

- "How She Move" starring Tracey Armstrong, Cle Bennett. (Canadian movie about the street culture of step dancing. Produced by MTV Films. Will be followed in 2 weeks by "Step Up 2 the Streets." Please God, don't let this turn into the new subgenre like movies with penguins in it. I really don't see why we need to know so much about step dancing.)

- "Rambo" starring Sylvester Stallone, Julie Benz. (All I can say is that a certain 60-year-old is looking to either cash in or attempting to revive his career. This movie might achieve the first goal but I can't say the same for the second.)

- "Meet the Spartans" starring who knows? (This is a sequel to "Epic Movie." A sequel. Seriously. No, just no. Please, don't see this. It looks bad. Really bad. "Super Mario Bros" movie bad.)

- "Untraceable" starring Diane Lane. (A serial killer who murders his victims in front of a live online audience based on the hits on his website. Lane is a cybercop attempting to bring him down. Looks like it could be decent. Not great, but decent.

-> This week in videogames:

- "No More Heroes" for the Nintendo Wii was released on Jan. 22. (Open-ended gameplay that involves your character killing his way through the top 10 assassins in an attempt to become the number one hitman. It got many above average reviews and sounds like a cool premise.)

- "Burnout Paradise" was released for the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 on Jan. 22. (Changes the entire layout of the Burnout series. This world is open-ended and the player runs into missions as he drives around. He can also enter crash mode at any point while driving around when he or she gets into an accident. The graphics also make these crashes look stunningly beautiful. Strongly recommended.)

Well, that's it for this week folks! I'll be back next week with more stories, style, and sarcasm.

- On a sad and more serious note, Heath Ledger was found dead on Jan. 22nd in an apartment in Manhattan. The cause of death has not been determined but there appears to have been no foul play or appearance of suicide. Heath Ledger was a very gifted actor who had only just begun to fully explore that talent. His roles in "Brokeback Mountain," "I'm Not There," and "Monster's Ball" truly showed his skill. His role as The Joker in the upcoming "The Dark Knight" looks to be incredible and will show the world on a larger scale what this actor was capable of. He will be missed. R.I.P.

Alright, so I changed the name of it again. I like this one better though. It seems more appropriate. Anyway, let's get cracking.

-> Something happened again with Britney. But this isn't the tabloids and I really couldn't care less about what happened anyway. XDD

-> I saw Sweeney Todd this week. What a truly awesome film. All of the cast members are brilliant, especially Johnny Depp (who's also a good singer). However, you won't be able to watch this film without forever seeing Snape singing about pretty women. LOL Oh, and there's blood. Lots of it.

-> There's a rumor going around that a U2 Guitar Hero videogame is in the works. All I can say is please let this be true! It would be really amazing if this game actually existed.

-> Another rumor is that the Indiana Jones 4 trailer will be shown during the Super Bowl. So keep your eyes open for it.

-> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AXPnH0C9UA&feature=related. One of the funniest videos I've ever seen. XDD

-> Curt Shilling is retiring from baseball and is going into game development. What will he do? Bleed in his sock some more when his game bombs?

-> Well, we won't have to worry about lame jokes and sucky speeches at the Golden Globes. The award show has been canceled since many writers and actors who support the strike have boycotted the awards. Award shows usually don't work if there's no one there to receive the awards.

-> Captain Olimar and the Pikmin have been announced as yet another character joining SSBB's huge roster.

-> Here's the new trailer for Soul Caliber IV. Everyone must watch this. You'll understand why when you see the guests at the end. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ejx70Gb0ilc

-> Some new videogame movies in production or preproduction or have been green-lighted: Castlevania, Far Cry, Alice, Max Payne, Postal, Prince of Persia, Spyhunter, Street Fighter, Tekken.
- I think that Castlevania, Max Payne, and Prince of Persia sound interesting. But I don't see how Tekken, Postal, and Street Fighter will work on the big screen.

-> In comics, Spiderman's "Brand New Day" and the new Hulk, featuring "Red Hulk" have been released. For those of you who do not know what the big deal with about "Brand New Day," the comic is the beginning of the new Spiderman. In case you haven't been following, Spidey's dear Aunt May got shot and everyone knows who Spidey really is. So a villain named Mephisto offered Spiderman the chance to save Aunt May if he sacrificed him and M.J.'s marriage. What an incredibly stupid twist. I mean, really? What is the point of that?

-> This week in music:
- "Liverpool 8" by Ringo Starr will be released on January 14th. The title track has already been
released as a single. (Interesting to hear what this album will be like. I've never heard any of
Ringo's solo work. It's his first album since 2005.)

-> This week in movies (all releases this Friday, Jan. 11):
- "First Sunday" starring Ice Cube, Tracey Morgan. (Movie about two petty criminals who try to rob a church. Do I need to even say how bad this movie is going to be? No, I really don't. LOL)
- "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale" starring Jason Statham, Leelee Sobieski. (This movie is based on the videogame, "Dungeon Siege." The cast shows promise but it's directed by Uwe Boll. This is equivalent to the Blue Screen of Death for movies. I'll save my $10.)
- "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie" starring ...? (Why? Really, why? Vegetable
pirates? This may be the dumbest animated movie concept since the last VeggieTales Movie.)

-> This week in videogames:
- "Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom" for the Xbox 360 was released on Jan. 8th. (Focusing for on RPG elements instead of its standard RTS elements. I know nothing about this series besides that. XD)
- "Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity" for the PS2 and Wii was released Jan. 8th. (Sadly, yet another Sonic spin-off with 18 characters. I didn't know that many characters existed in Sonic. Probably going to be bad.)

Well, that's it for this week. See you again next week. Coming up, Cloverfield!

"Us kids know! No cars go!"

White & Nerdy: 1/02/08 [03 Jan 2008|12:38am]
Hello everybody! Well, I came up with a name for my blog thing. So we'll see how long I keep this up. XD

- First off, Happy 2008!

- According to IGN, Jade Empire 2 for Xbox 360 is actually in development after a member of Mercury News saw code for the game (which you all just lost). No idea on a release date but it won't be for a while.

- Gray Fox as Cyborg Ninja will appear as an assist trophy in SSBB. The amount of characters they're adding to this game is just mind-blowing.

- PS3 still sucks.

- David Letterman looks like Santa Claus.

- Here's the trailer for Hellboy II: The Golden Army. It looks really cool. http://youtube.com/watch?v=5NfIT6CFQXg

- The Writers Guild has decided to boycott the Golden Globe Awards. Expect many sucky jokes and boring introductions.

- REM's new album, Accelerate, will be released on March 31, 2008. The album is looking to be more energetic than their past couple of albums.

- A Wolverine manga is being developed. Could be good, but it'll probably suck. We already have a comic with Wolverine in it.

- This week's movies: One Missed Call (about voice mails that kill people. Yeah, it's clearance time at the movies. No thanks.)

- This week's music: The hard copy of "In Rainbows" by Radiohead was released to stores on 1/1/08.
The Smashing Pumpkins' new EP, "American Gothic" was released today.

Well, that's all for today! Until next time.

The First of Many Entries...if I remember [28 Dec 2007|11:24pm]
Alright, so I've decided that since I never remember to update this thing about what's going in my life, I'll use it as a blog for all forms of entertainment. I'll try my best to update it every day, but that may not happen. Anyway, let's get started.

- It seems that the Xbox 360 is considering the idea of a motion-sensitive controller. Are they serious? If Microsoft does that, they'll look like they're following the PS3 strategy of ripping off other system's ideas. The Xbox 360 is great the way it is.

- Nokia is planning on releasing the second generation of the N-Gage. I just have one question. Why? The N-Gage is a monumental failure in every way. It has no chance in hell of competing with any of established systems. Nokia should save itself even more embarrassment than the first N-Gage led to.

- It's clear now that Nintendo is going to win the race for this generation if the Wii keeps on selling the way it is. Amazon reported that they sold 17 Wiis per second while they were in stock. Per second. I don't think that's happened in any system's history since Amazon's been around.

- Street Fighter IV has been officially announced. Here's the trailer.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=MZP3WYiOncI

- There's a rumor flying around that U2 will be recording in Spain in early 2008. Finishing their new album? I sure hope so.

- Finally, the trailer for The Dark Knight was shown attached to I Am Legend. It is beyond godly. You can find the trailer at http://atasteforthetheatrical.com/

Well, that's all for today. This is Joe signing off!

Oh My God. I'm actually updating! [26 Jan 2007|12:32am]
[ mood | good ]

Hey! Look at this! I'm actually updating instead of emoing about stuff! XDD

Looks like I have about 3 months to update on so here it goes. Um, October was cool. Halloween was pretty fun. I dressed as Bono (duh) and talked about Africa in an Irish accent which eventually led to Dana hitting me every time I said the word "Africa." I also mentioned how The Edge is on fire all the time. LOL

I got the Nintendo Wii in November which was really cool. I don't know if I mentioned this but Dana and I write videogame reviews for The Observer, Fordham's newspaper. Besides that, November was full of long, painful papers that I would like to wipe from my mind. But Molloy's Thanksgiving reunion was very cool. It was great seeing all of my friends again. Then I got through finals in December without killing someone, got at least a B in all of my classes, and got ready for Christmas. On Christmas, I got a leather jacket, some videogames, U2 stuff, etc. I had my Christmas party a couple of days later which was really fun. We went to karaoke and it was cool. I finally sang Bad in the right key!

After that, 2007 rolled in and I enjoyed my next two weeks off. I hung out with my friends a lot, went to a basketball game at Madison Square Garden, and spent all of my money. XD

I started the new semester last week and so far, it's been much better than the first. All my classes are cool. We're gonna read Dracula in English class, my Philosophy professor mentioned Bono in class today, and I'm gonna make up a one-act play later this year for Intro. to Theater. My schedule kinds sucks. (I have to go in for class every day.) But I'll get used to it.

In terms of what's happening within the U2 world, the Vertigo Tour is over. It made me kinda sad but I believe that they'll be a new album this year. Also, Window in the Skies from U2:18 Singles is one of the best U2 songs I've ever heard. In my opinion, it's better than anything else from the last two albums at least.

One last thing. To all of my friends, thanks for helping me out when I am in one of my depressed/pissed off moods. I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize for all my past emo entries and all of the future ones I will probably write. I'll also try to update more often but don't count on it. XD

Until next time, love and peace or else.

Alright, that's it. I've had it. Over the past few weeks, one of my friends, no, actually, more than a friend, my sister has been screwed over by this world once again. She's told me what she's been dealing with and how no one in a position of power cares about it. I won't go into details because she might not want me to. All I'm gonna say is that I'm done. This has pushed me too far. If I ever find out who's been bothering my sister, I will make them regret ever being born. I will rip them apart in more way than I can count. I don't care what happens to me after that. All that matters is that they pay for what they've done. I can barely type correctly because my hands are shaking too much. It's taking everything I've got to stop from punching my fist through my laptop. And I don't want to hear anyone telling me to calm down. I'm not calm and I won't be until those people get what they deserve. My little sister deserves better than this. And I will make sure she's gets better than what she's getting now, no matter what. It seems that the world wanted to see what would happen if it pushed me over the edge (make a U2 joke and I'll kill you). Well, guess what? You did it. You made your move. Now let's see what I can do.

U2.com can go straight to hell! [04 Oct 2006|10:55pm]
[ mood | disappointed ]

This morning, I entered a contest to go to an HBO filming with Bono and The Edge. I never thought I would get in since there were only 50 spots available but I did. I was chosen to meet Bono and The Edge tomorrow. I was so freaking out to a level very few have ever seen. Then I read the details. It turns out that since the filming takes place in a club, you can only go to the screening if you're over 21 years old. I'm 18 years old. I checked to see if U2.com mentioned it in the first e-mail they sent me or on their official site. There was no mention of age at all. So now I can't go.

So thanks U2.com for getting my hopes up all day with the potential of meeting my idols, then for confirming that I could meet them and helping me fulfill one of my lifetime goals only to screw me over completely with details that weren't mentioned before. Thanks a lot. I'm not angry with the actual band because they have nothing to do with the website. I'm angry at the poor organization that this website has had for the last few years. The only reason I'll keep my subscription is for exclusive pre-sales to concerts and for the chance that I a contest in the future that I can actually attend. So goodnight U2.com, you suck.

Gay Rights Day and severe boredom [04 Oct 2006|04:59pm]
[ mood | good ]

"Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaines

We would like to know who really believes in gay rights on Livejournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks.

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."

So besides that, college is getting better. I'm adjusting to it. Tomorrow, I'm gonna visit Molloy and hang out with my friends so that should be fun. Things have just been going really good for me lately. I hope it keeps up. That's about it. I'm also listening to this unreleased U2 song called "Mercy." It's really good with great lyrics. If you can find it on the Internet, I suggest you download it. That's all for now.
